No, because you would need an upgrade license and serial number.

Re: Move Adobe programs to another HDD

1. It is assumed that the original installation is under C:\Program Files\ although it could be under C:\Program Files (x86)\. Make the change accordingly.

2. Create the folder D:\Adobe\ and make sure that you have ownership and full control permissions. Check Properties | Security | Full Control Permissions.

3. Open Command Prompt as an Administrator. At the Command Prompt, type the following four commands one after the other.

> ren "C:\Program Files\Adobe" "Adobe.bak"

> robocopy "C:\Program Files\Adobe.bak" "D:\Adobe" /E /ZB /DCOPY:T /COPYALL /R:1 /W:1 /V

> mklink /J "C:\Program Files\Adobe" "D:\Adobe"

> robocopy "D:\Adobe" "C:\Program Files\Adobe" /E /COPY:SOU /xo /xn /xc /xx

4. Make sure that everything works fine (try also conversion to PDF from MS Office) and then delete the bakup of the original folder ("Adobe.bak").

It takes 2-3 minutes. I did it with Microsoft Office and Adobe and managed to free over 2GB on my C drive. You will still see the Adobe folders on C, but it is just a dynamic link.

Let's suppose someone is selling their complete package (including disks and serial numbers).

If the package is used, you must get a transfer of license form, completed by the seller. Otherwise they have not transferred their license to you; they are still allowed to run it, and you are not allowed. Adobe cannot help without a transfer of license.

If the package is unused, be very wary indeed. Ebay and the web in general are a hotbed for fake product. If someone seems to sell more than one copy of an old product, ask yourself where they get something that Adobe stopped making years ago.

Also, CS6 is unlikely to work with future systems, especially on Mac. Really, consider subscriptions, or consider a different product.

CS6 wasn't that far removed from CS5 or CS4 before it. If you're hell bent on using legacy software, just keep using what you have until it quits working.

eBay is a den of thieves for software pirates.   Don't put yourself or your computer at risk for viruses and malware.  You'll just be throwing good money after bad.

If you really want to upgrade your software, get a Creative Cloud subscription which includes free upgrades for as long as you remain a member.

Log-in to  your Adobe account.  If you purchased digital downloads, your download links should still be in your account.

But if you purchased disks, you'll need to go back to Customer Care and obtain the download link from them.  They'll probably ask you for your serial number or proof of purchase.

Just to let you know I solved it Jeff, I couldn't face even 5 mins with the chat team, it was that awful before which is why it led me to the forums lol.    Anyhoo the direct download way worked, once they were installed the CC installer did the update fine so no idea what the problem was but that was the way around it, again thanks for your help, it's been great :-)

Thanks for the update, Ian.

I would recommend reviewing the settings of any installed security, anti-virus, or anti-malware software, Ian.  The direct download option is often successful because the installation is being invoked locally. The same installation, when applied through our update mechanism, may be blocked because the software is preventing installation files which were downloaded by, to them, an unknown application.

Feel free to post a new public forum discussion, if you face any new errors in the future, Ian.

CS5 Serial Numbers

0
0

Hi Adobe Users!

I've been using my copy of CS5 Creative Suite for several years on my old Mac with no problems. I recently got a newer Mac and am running macOS Sierra.

I installed CS5 successfully, and Illustrator seemed to open OK at first. But, shortly after, I had a reason to uninstall Illustrator and then reinstall it. Ever since then, all the Creative Suite programs demand that I reenter the serial number in order to open, and then tell me the number is invalid.

I tried reinstalling the whole suite, and it always accepts the serial number upon installation. But not when trying to open the programs.

I researched it and found this might be because of a fraudulent serial number or similar issue with the software, which I wouldn’t have known about until trying to re-install years after purchase.

However, I’d successfully registered the product when I first bought it, and it still appears in my list of registered products in my account. In fact, it’s in there twice for some reason (with the two registration dates being just a couple days apart).

Is this for sure a matter of unauthorized serial number, or is there something I can do to legitimately get past this barrier?

If the serial number's not legit, why does the product still appear registered with that number in my account?

I’d appreciate any insight on this.

Thanks so much in advance!

Unable to approve transaction issue [India]

0

Hi,

I went through the chat interface on your website to inquire about the payment issue I had while purchasing a membership for using photoshop.

The representative stated that I need to contact my bank as the bank isnt allowing the payment through. I contacted the bank to verify the details and they said everything is fine.

My card is a Canara Bank issued debit card and transactions are payable only within India as stated on the card.

I then dug deeper into your help and forum pages only to find that credit card is to be used not a debit card for payment.

I however as mentioned earlier have only a debit card and in your payment page its mentioned in the card number box to enter a debit or credit card number.

Why is there a conflict in information where your help pages state the use of credit cards only would work and not in your main payment page where the transaction is the focus there.? The information is misleading and wastes our time to understand how to go about it.

Please either include the use of debit cards for payments of your products or remove the mention of debit card from the transaction page altogether.

Thanks

Thank you John and Nancy for those insights! Those are helpful suggestions. I'm also thinking of installing a second hard drive with an older operating system for running vintage software like CS5. If you have other ideas, please feel free to share! I appreciate what you've said so far.

Sure, it won’t. The message is correct. But not from Lightroom.

Re: Adobe claims I have non-genuine software

I have been getting a similar pop up for the last couple of weeks. It's very irritating. I am a subscriber to the CC Photography plan, so my Photoshop and Lightroom are certainly valid. However, I have a couple of older Adobe software, pre-CC subscription. My problem is that the pop up message doesn't tell me WHAT is not genuine. Dreamweaver? (I'm happy to remove that anyway) Premiere? (I KNOW that's legit) Is it because I still have older versions of Photoshop and Lightroom installed in case Adobe decides to mess with me?

My pop up also mentions "helping" me with special pricing, but reading these boards, nobody at Adobe phone support seems to know anything about special pricing, and many don't seem to know about the non-genuine messages.

I did just note that I had both a Photoshop CC 2018 (version 19) and a Photoshop CC 2019 (version 20) on my computer. I don't know why Creative Cloud didn't remove the one when updating to the other, but I removed v19, we'll see if that fixed it. But this is a heckuva way to run a rodeo! I've been using Photoshop since Adobe bought PhotoStyler from Aldus, so I really don't appreciate these tactics.

Re: Adobe claims I have non-genuine software

Creative Cloud uses  e-mail and password authentication instead of serial numbers.  So if something is flagged as non-genuine, it's coming from a legacy Creative Suite serial number.

Due to popular request, Adobe no longer removes old versions when you upgrade Creative Cloud  unless you click Advanced Options and check the box  for it.  I have 4 versions of Photoshop and Dreamweaver side-by-side in case I ever need them and it poses no performance problems for my workstation.

Run the Adobe Cleaner tool to remove old or unwanted versions from your PC.

Adobe Elements 13 not downloadable

I own licenses for Photoshop and Premiere Elements 13 and they show up correctly in my account. However I can't find a working site for either of them:

- For PS I tried this site: Download Photoshop Elements 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, and 7 but for my platform (both Windows 32 and 64) it just shows "Not found" on click

- For Premiere I can't even find any Adobe site to download it

Thanks for the help!

I have the same issue.  I am trying to deactivate CS6 to install another on my Mac.  I checked this site saying to contact the volume licensing admin but I cannot give details since someone just gave me the Mac with the programs installed.  What to do?

-----------------------------

Deactivate option dimmed or missing?

If the software you’re trying to deactivate is part of a suite, deactivate another app in the suite. Launch any app in the suite,  and then choose Help > Deactivate.

If your company purchased the product under a volume licensing agreement, the deactivate option isn’t available. Contact your volume licensing administrator for help.

Hi

You do not legally own that copy of Photoshop, you would be better off purchasing the Photography Plan for $9.99/month, that way you get the most recent version which includes Photoshop and Lightroom

Re: Adobe Creative Suite - Install on Stand Alone Network

I know this is an old thread, but the answers above are not correct.

I have recently (2019) purchased a stand alone copy of CS6, which was previously owned, but has had the licence corretly de activated.

In other words I can now install on my computer as a new product and register the licences with adobe.

I have to say, I am surprised no one has questioned the legality of adobe de activating the CS stand alone licences, which customers have bought in good faith.

It is one thing to shut down the activation server and another to deny genuine licence holders the ability to continue to use old software that is good for their purpose.

For example, in my case, I am not a designer, I own an old mac and an old windows laptop with windows 8.1. both are perfectly good for what I want them for.

You mentioned above "I cannot give details since someone just gave me the Mac with the programs installed"

Did you have the licence transferred over to you

Transfer an Adobe product license

Nope.  Do you mean that I cannot deactivate without those details?  There is no other way?

If you did not have the licence transferred then you do not legally own that copy and hence are not entitled to either use it or transfer it

Purchased from where? 3rd party pre-owned purchases are never advocated here due to the risk of piracy and malware.

Questions posted on Adobe forums normally refer to purchasing from Adobe which was not possible when this question was posted.

Re: Adobe Creative Suite - Install on Stand Alone Network

CS6, CS5, CS4 and CS3 activation servers are still running.

CS3, CS2 and CS users who contacted Adobe before this year were able to get working software.

You say it was previously owned? Then it is not a new product. Please bear in mind that the SELLER/GIFTER of CS6 to you must complete a licence transfer form and get it to Adobe. Otherwise you have no rights to the software, whatever arrangement you may have made with the seller/gifter.

You may try to run the installer from the external disk. Or use flashdelover's method with xattr -c [path to .dmg] command.
