CS4, Adobe AIR install problems on a Mac

I'm using OSX 10.8.3.  I downloaded and installed a new version of Java.  CS4 install still bites the dust when "installing Adobe AIR." 

Now I get an Adobe Air Box: "The app requires a version of Adobe AIR which is no longer supported. Please contact the app author for an updated version."

(Before asking in this forum, I 'spoke' to the Adobe 'chat folks': Was the chat guy not kidding when he suggested that I have to purshase CS  again? YIKES! That is, until I asked to speak to his supervisor..)
